The Pao family visits their friends the Chen family in Thimphu, Bhutan for their spring break. Thimphu is a picturesque capital city of Bhutan nestled in the Himalayas. The Himalayan mountains pass through the 6 nations of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, Nepal and Bhutan.
The Chen family takes the Pao family to the iconic Tashichho Dzong that serves as a monastery and a government building. The Chen family shares that the ancient monastery plays an active role in educating young monks. The Pao and Chen families enjoy strolling on the cloisters which are covered walkways in the monasteries. Paolo notices some monks diligently studying and some more practicing meditation. Paolo curiously asks one of them about their daily routine and study curriculum. The monk explains that their education involves science, agriculture, carpentry and medicine as well as philosophy and meditation. They are taught to be self-sufficient and smart about managing their resources at an early age.
